Wonderful post and reminder!! I love the book The Creative Family for this purpose. It's great for fostering creativity. I could do more for myself, but I try and work it in when doing so with my girls!!

Oh what inspiration! Yes, I had a couple of little ones under 5 and had to stay at home. Quilting saved me from insanity and gave me a sense of worth! Daft I know but it really kept me going.

I started making a quilt, made all the usual mistakes but still have that one and would not part with it under any circumstances. Since then I have progressed to make quilts for family, friends and sold many baby quilts on the internet.

Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts!

Part of the reason I have maintained any semblance of sanity 3 1/2 months into twin parenting, is my commitment to my creative outlets. It helps, of course, that for my photography outlet, the twins are my newest and most favorite subject. I also play the piano/write music. Sometimes, instead of throwing on Baby Einstein, I play the piano while they lay in the activity mats. I hope to teach them my love for both activities as they grow.

Great post!! Totally reminds me that I need to just bite the bullet and carve out some crocheting time. (If nothing else, then to finish Logan's baby blanket before he's no longer a baby LOL!)

Thanks for the kick in the bum.

This is exactly how I feel about reading and running. It doesn't produce awesome quilts, but it gives me that sense of peace and sense of myself that I really need.

Excellent post! It took me more than a year to pull out my sewing machine again, and I'm so glad I did (I'm off to buy fabric for a quilt for my niece today). I don't do especially elaborate patterns, much in the same way I stopped knitting sweaters. I need a little less delay in my gratification. Regardless, though, it's nice to do something like that while the kids are napping, instead of always laundry and dishes. I took a beginning quilting class nearly two years ago, and I'm so glad I did. Not as portable as knitting and crochet, but so fun.

P.S. I must talk sewing machines with you... I think I want a new one for xmas... :-)
