We've also been thinking about Christmas traditions. The children all get new pajamas on Christmas Eve. We wash them ahead of time so they are ready to wear for story (The Night Before Christmas) and bedtime. I'm hoping next year we'll start decorating Christmas cookies together. I really enjoyed doing that every year as a child.

We started the "Elf" tradition this year ... but we tweaked it to fit our family. Our kids are 4, 3, & 3 and really getting in to caring for him until Santa takes him back home on Christmas Eve.

Other traditions are still being worked out ... we are trying new things this year and reintroducing others ... what sticks as a favorite is going to be interesting for us to watch. I think the kids will play a major role when they start asking next year for certain things to be repeated.

Have a good Christmas everyone ....

We have been trying to institute celebrating the whole season of advent instead of just Christmas. We have begun using an advent wreath I made out of spray paint and wine bottles and a calendar that marks each day with a special word.

I am hoping as the babies grow up it will be a special season for them that they can really understand.

PS. Oh yeah and we always eat Cinnabuns on Christmas morning-YUM!

Ever since I can remember, board games have played a big role in our holiday celebrations. Growing up, once the meal was cleared we would break out the games... and typically received a new game at Christmas. My favorite memory is the year we got Pictionary. We laughed so hard at each others drawings that we could barely talk. Last year my daughters received Candy Land and Chutes and Ladders. It's a start and I can't wait until we progress to other games. (My only complaint: why do toy manufacturers insist on only including 4 game pieces? I usually have to play as a "Little People." Oh well.)
