You’d think that, at 2.5, I’d know how to play with my children. And to a large extent, of course, I do. But the truth is that I spend a large portion of the day coordinating, shuttling, refereeing, and then getting out of the way when they’re actually playing nicely with one another. We go [...]

Compensation

As we sent our daughter into time-out last night, for who knows what offense, my husband made a comment to me. “Do you notice that we almost never put them in time-out at the same time?” And it’s true. Very seldom do they both behave poorly enough at the same time to warrant simultaneous time-outs.
Even [...]

How do you help other people tell your multiples apart?
September 25th, 2009 by jenna · 17 Comments
Last weekend, we were at a family wedding and some other related family events. Of course, everyone wanted to know which baby was which. This is a common question since we have identical twin girls, who look very much alike. Friday night, one baby was wearing a pink outfit, and I knew she’d have a [...]

Identity Crisis

My boys look alike.
Thankfully they have distinct voices and personalities. And, for the most part, I can tell them apart by sight as well. Although, occasionally even I will look at a photo and say, “I’m not sure but I THINK that is…..” For example, this photo:
I could make an educated guess. But I won’t. [...]

Different is Good

The other day (well, when it wasn’t 152 DEGREES here in TX, so really a few months ago), the girls and I went on a walk and made a stop by the neighbor’s “Candy Stand.” She is so stinkin’ cute- going into 1st grade and already coming up with business ideas (selling left over Halloween [...]

Cleave

My guys are not one of the sets of twins you hear about who are “total opposites.” They like the same things, to varying degrees but enough that they are always together. They discuss what they want to play. Each is heartbroken if the other refuses to “pay wif me,” and they defend each other against our discipline. They sleep tangled up together, closer than I sleep to my husband. Their top loves in life are Mommy, Daddy, and their twin. Their sisters are in another category. It pains me to think of how we must begin to train them to grow apart.

Troubles with Doubles?
June 27th, 2009 by Jen from Diagnosis: Urine · 10 Comments
As a family, we were recently talking about how the boys look very much alike, but we can see differences between them. One of my boys said, “But Nana doesn’t.” His brother nodded in agreement. I was upset. Of the many people who can’t tell them apart — including sometimes me and my husband — he picked out his grandma as the person who doesn’t see differences between them.

Differentiating Between Multiples
June 26th, 2009 by jenna · 6 Comments
Earlier this month, our identical twin girls were at the health unit for 4-month check-ups and their immunizations. Of course, they were measured and weighed. To my surprise, our “smaller” baby now weighs more than her “bigger” sister. I knew she’d been eating more often than her sister recently, but I didn’t really expect she’d [...]

When Good Boys Go Bad
May 6th, 2009 by MamaCyn · 11 Comments
Picture this:
Our family of six is out for our nightly post-dinner, pre-bedtime walk. I am pushing Brett in the single stroller, Brian is pushing Aaron and Brady in their side-by-side, and Alaina is riding next to us on her big girl bike. A&B spontaneously burst out into song. We’re not sure what words they are [...]
